ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Doris Maron was born June 5th, 1948, the seventh child in a family of nine - six girls and three boys. She grew up on a farm in east-central Alberta and at an early age dreamed of travelling to other parts of the world. In 1983 she chose to end her fifteen-year marriage and face the challenges of raising her three young children as a single parent. Her passion to experience all that life has to offer took her into several career changes and many adventures before she embraced her love to travel. In 1989 she took the motorcycle safety training course and bought her first motorbike – thus began her travels throughout North America. From 2001 to 2004 she lived her wildest dream – to travel around the world on her motorcycle. From her travel journals she now writes and shares her adventures with the world.

My dream to travel began when I was very young. I remember wanting to write a book when I was about 12 years old. One evening I started writing in an empty scribbler. After three pages I was finished, done - I had nothing else to write about. I knew then that I must travel, visit old castles and historical places, meet the local people and experience life so I could write.

Many, many, many years later (1989) I bought my first motorcycle - thus began my travels in North America. Over the next eleven years I travelled into all but six of the states in the USA and across Canada from coast to coast. I was now ready to expand my horizons and see some of the rest of the world. The year 2000 was coming to an end.

Year 2001 I began making plans to travel the world. In the first seven months I sold everything I owned including my 1997, candy-apple red, 1500 cc Honda Goldwing (my dream bike) to make my dream a reality. Realizing that the 1500 cc bike was way to big for this adventure, I replaced it with a 2001, 750 cc Honda Magna. I outfitted it with hard side bags, a top trunk, a more comfortable seat, engine guard,  highway pegs, highway boards and a windshield. I was ready to go.

On August 4th, 2001, I set out on the biggest adventure of my life.
